Declan Morrisey of Helvick eldest son Jimmy was training for the priesthood , one holiday he brought another student home with him, they went for a walk on the cliff top above the farmhouse, Jimmy slipped down onto the rocks , by the time the student got word to the family and got a boat out from Helvick pier, they found him dead.

Another Farmer’s Son from Sea View, Jimmy Sullivan was taking a load of hay/straw home with the help of his friend Tommy Carey, there was a long avenue down to the house, Tommy got down off the load to open the gate, the wheel of the cart went over a big stone that used to keep the gate closed, the load toppled over with Jimmy underneath and he was dead by the time they got him out.

In 1945 three fishermen lost their life at sea, they were four men out in the boat fishing when a mine got tangled in their nets and blew the boat to bits, one man survived, a father and son and a chap from the village Nick Cuddihy known as Cud, Cud’s mother Ally Cuddihy (Manahan) took her son’s death badly , she didn’t have a body to lay to rest.
