Anthony Whelan
Pictured is Anthony Whelan, left (Abbeyside) and John Corroon (Westmeath) on the summit of Carrauntoohil during the Concern 14 Munroe challenge. The team managed to climb 8 of the country's highest 14 mountains over 2 days but had to abandon the attempt in interest of group safety due to terrible weather. Anthony managed to raise €1595 .
Anthony, is Son of Tom Whelan from Ring and his mother is Marion nee Hyslop.The family now live at Abbeyside tough Tom's extended family continue to live at an Rinn.

The group raised a fantastic €8640 which went towards helping children in Africa to gain access to an education. In Africa, a child is 40% more likely to live beyond their fifth birthday if their mother has a primary school education. It’s that basic. Education is a human right. It’s also a key factor in reducing poverty and child labour.
