Nioclás Ó' Gríofán  passed on this photo to me. It's of Sean Harty
opening drills for beet with his horse and 'Planet' at his farm in
Ballinagoul, Ring in the early 50's. The image was taken by a
family member  who was home from america.

The bottom three photos, I took are of a turnip lifting/topping machine . Nioclás (pictured) remembers using it as a youngster. It was probably made locally by a blacksmith. click on the Images

Visitor from Belgium

Our visitor, Navid, from Belgium dropped by the Museum a few days back. Navid who is 18 years old is visiting all the Irish speaking areas throughout the country. His special study is film making and eventually he will become a producer in his own country. Nioclás took him to Ring, where he stayed overnight before heading to Cork and kerry.

I took him to see St. Josephs, which was erected as a workhouse in the mid 19th century, he is seen here at the new Hospital viewing some artwork which have been created by the residents there.

The unexpected and sudden death of Don Hayes came as a great shock to the Ring people. Don was a noted fisherman. He is pictured here at the Oyster beds in Dungarvan Bay Helvick head in the background. Don was a hard worker and much respected in the Parish.(Photo, Clíona)
