Visitor from Belgium

Our visitor, Navid, from Belgium dropped by the Museum a few days back. Navid who is 18 years old is visiting all the Irish speaking areas throughout the country. His special study is film making and eventually he will become a producer in his own country. Nioclás took him to Ring, where he stayed overnight before heading to Cork and kerry.

I took him to see St. Josephs, which was erected as a workhouse in the mid 19th century, he is seen here at the new Hospital viewing some artwork which have been created by the residents there.

The late Don Hayes

The unexpected and sudden death of Don Hayes came as a great shock to the Ring people. Don was a noted fisherman. He is pictured here at the Oyster beds in Dungarvan Bay Helvick head in the background. Don was a hard worker and much respected in the Parish.(Photo, Clíona)

Winkle pickers in Dungarvan

Thought that you may like this picture from the archive. It is a little confusing tough. It does not look like it is winkles that they are picking. Winkles are normally picked by hand from under rocks, into a can and then placed in the bag...It is also very unlikely that four bags of winkles would have been picked while the tide was out...other than that, winkles are black....I wonder?
